![]() ![]() Hopefully NBC will reassess the series' future and not let it spin off into oblivion. It's even a cross-promotional tool, since stars included American Ninja Warrior host Matt Iseman and This Is Us actor Chrissy Metz. The Wheel is that show just like it filled airtime during the winter break, it would work great as a summer staple. They can use another unscripted hit, or at least a reliable series that they can lean on. It might even make sense to put The Voice on hiatus after he exits. NBC's unscripted side faces an uncertain future once Blake Shelton leaves The Voice. This was a difficult programming decision for a show that had real potential, particularly for this network. in its second week, so any fan who didn't catch the time change simply didn't come back. On top of that, NBC moved The Wheel from 10:00 p.m. Viewers were likely spending time with their families or at least had a lot more to do than check out a game show. The Wheel could've garnered more fans over 10 weeks than two weeks - especially since those two weeks were at the height of the Christmas / Hanukkah / Kwanzaa season. People have to be given time to find the show and watch enough of it to decide they enjoy it. TV viewers know how important it is for a series to find its audience. ![]() ![]() Those little in-jokes and the fact that these stars are so out of their element make The Wheel a delightful ride. But it thrives on chaos and a fair bit of wit, such as playing Vanilla Ice's "Ice, Ice Baby" as the wheel spun before a figure skating question. The show isn't perfect McIntyre overuses his catchphrases, and it's frustrating when the randomly chosen contestant is someone who's already been eliminated, or someone wins money that was banked by someone else. In Episode 10, "The Skater & The Dater," actor Jackie Tohn had to help with the meat question - after declaring "I'm a vegetarian!" The situation gets weirder when the wheel makes completely useless question/star combinations. The topics that the celebrities have chosen are often vague or questionable for example, Top Chef franchise alum Curtis Stone's specialty was meat while NFL star Terrell Owens was brought on as an expert in bowling. Just like McIntyre leaned into the absurdity of Top Gear, he leans into the absurdity of The Wheel. A big event, family-friendly game show that can open a night is a wonderful asset joining NBCs powerhouse reality brands such as The Voice, Americas. ![]()
